Just got one to try and be a better spot for keeping track of my photography, and I’m trying to figure out how it became so big. Anyway, anyone have any recommendations on what to follow?

I created an instagram solely to follow some fellow track day enthusiasts and figured I would use it a bit while I was at it. It’s kind of an annoying platform as it is clearly designed with the “ iphone in portrait orientation” user always in mind. I almost only take photos in landscape and the iphone-ish aesthetics always bother me. But it’s the same as reddit for me where there is just such an abundance of content that I will ignore my complaints and use it just to see cool stuff.

Depends on where you want to go. For stills pretty much anyone is a good bet, but if you want something more technical go look at motorsports stuff. Of course some teams will have their own shooters, and some freelancers shoot for multiple teams/agencies. In no particular order heres just a bunch of from my personal list:

https://www.instagram.com/nickdunganphoto/
https://www.instagram.com/drewgibsonphoto/

https://www.instagram.com/alexpenfold/
https://www.instagram.com/iamted7/
https://www.instagram.com/visualechos/
https://www.instagram.com/tomstamp/
And of course the regulars like kurt bradley, jonathan harper, any speedhunter, etc.

Is that “unreliable Alfa” content or unreliable “Alfa content”?

I hate Instagram. No easy, direct way to download pics (you have to use a workaround to extract them), and the videos don’t even have progress bars. Can’t tell if you’re clicking on a 5-second video, or a 50 -second video.

I’d recommend Flickr if you’re looking to keep your photography in one location. The site won’t downgrade your picture quality.

I think that’s the one site I haven’t tried. I tried 500px, YouPic, et cetera, just can’t find something I like. So might as well give Instagram a shot.

The Petersen Museum has an Insta that’s pretty good, as does Speedhunters and P etrolicious. Not car related, but dogs_in infood is also a fantasticly entertaining one.

If you like kinda epic pictures check out NASA, Nasa JPL, National Geographic and if you want to see all the weird shit people try to bring on planes the TSA’s instagram is surprisingly entertaining.

I just gave you a follow. Same handle as I have here. I’ve been using Instagram for a couple of years, although I can’t say I’ve got thousands of followers to show for it or anything. I will say it has introduced me to some like minded photographers and some work that inspires me, and there’s also a lot of bots and spammers. Finding the right hashtags can help find communities that you like - I tend to seek out car and rally related stuff, film photography, minimal and architectural photography and there are a good amount of all of that on there
